German-English Academy Building

The German-English Academy Building is an educational structure in Milwaukee featuring Gothic and Renaissance details. The building displays decorative brickwork, arched openings, and two distinct sections connected through a central entrance area.

The building opened in 1891 to serve Milwaukee's German immigrant population with bilingual education. It later joined the Milwaukee School of Engineering and transitioned to new roles in technical training and workforce development.

The academy introduced Milwaukee's first kindergarten and taught singing, drawing, and practical skills alongside academic subjects. Students experienced teaching methods that combined movement and creativity with traditional learning.

The building sits in central Milwaukee with convenient access via public transportation. Today it operates as a technology workspace that has occupied the space since 2012.

The building's south side features a Gothic pavilion with three large arched windows that stand out from outside. This architectural detail makes the structure more complex than standard school buildings of its era.
