Sant Cugat del Vallès, Metropolitan municipality in Vallès Occidental, Spain.
Sant Cugat del Vallès is a municipality in the Vallès Occidental comarca within the Barcelona metropolitan area. The town divides into several residential neighborhoods, including Valldoreix, La Floresta, and Mira-sol, which spread across hilly terrain.
The settlement grew on the remains of a Roman fortress called Castrum Octavianum from the first century. A Benedictine monastery was founded in the ninth century and shaped the medieval development of the region.
Most residents speak Catalan in daily life, and the town organizes itself around local markets and public squares. Cafés and school routes shape the rhythm of a typical suburb that remains closely tied to Catalan identity.
The town sits about half an hour by train from Barcelona and offers regular connections throughout the day. Most neighborhoods are hilly, so it helps to wear comfortable shoes and plan your route beforehand.
A museum at Cal Quitèria is devoted entirely to textile art and was the first of its kind in Spain. The cloister of the local monastery ranks among the largest Romanesque structures in Europe and counts over eighty preserved capitals.
