L'Umbracle, Sculpture garden in City of Arts and Sciences, Valencia, Spain.
L'Umbracle is an arched structure comprising 55 fixed and 54 floating arches that span across a landscaped garden area. It functions simultaneously as a public garden space and as a roof covering the parking level below.
Santiago Calatrava designed and completed this entrance gateway to the City of Arts and Sciences complex in 2001. It became a defining landmark for the city's modern architectural transformation.
The sculpture path displays contemporary artworks by various artists throughout the garden, turning the walk into a visual journey. These pieces create a sense of how modern art integrates into everyday public spaces.
Entry to the space is free and it remains accessible throughout the day. Morning or late afternoon visits offer the most comfortable conditions for walking and photography.
The garden contains palm trees, bitter orange trees, and regional shrubs that create color changes throughout the year. This blend of plants softens the modern architecture while providing shade and seasonal interest.
