City of Arts and Sciences
City of Arts and Sciences, Modern architectural complex in Valencia, Spain
The City of Arts and Sciences extends for two kilometers along the former Turia riverbed, featuring six primary buildings with curved white surfaces and reflective pools.
The complex emerged from a 1989 initiative inspired by Paris science centers, transforming from a 300 million euro project to a 1.2 billion euro development by 2009.
The Palau de les Arts presents classical performances throughout the year, while the Science Museum offers technology exhibitions that demonstrate scientific principles through hands-on displays.
Visitors can purchase individual tickets for each venue or combination passes that grant access to multiple buildings, with the Oceanografic requiring at minimum four hours to explore.
The Oceanografic contains seven marine environments and maintains 45,000 specimens representing 500 species, making it the largest aquarium facility in Europe.

20th and 21st-century architecture has transformed city centers with structures that push engineering boundaries. Observation towers like the Seattle Space Needle and experimental residential complexes like Habitat 67 in Montreal demonstrate the evolution of construction techniques. Architects have explored new forms using materials such as steel, glass, and concrete, creating structures that meet the growing demands of metropolitan areas. This collection includes buildings that marked their time with innovative design. In Barcelona, Antoni Gaudí's Casa Milà features a wavy facade that breaks traditional norms, while in London, 30 St Mary Axe incorporates energy-saving technologies into its 180-meter structure. From Bilbao's Guggenheim Museum clad in titanium to artificial islands shaped in the Persian Gulf in Dubai, these projects illustrate the diversity of architectural approaches worldwide. Each building reflects its urban context while offering solutions to technical and functional challenges of its era.
Valencia combines Roman sites, Gothic buildings, modern architecture, and natural areas. The city features art museums, historical markets, medieval gates, and the Ciudad de las Artes science center. The Turia Park and beaches allow outdoor recreation, while the Cathedral and Silk Exchange display the city's heritage.
