Forests of Brabant National Park, National park in Flemish Brabant, Belgium.
Forests of Brabant National Park comprises several major woodland areas including Hallerbos, Lembeekbos, and Zoniënwoud that form a protected landscape of mixed forests, wetlands, and open heathland. The terrain is crisscrossed with walking trails and supports diverse plant and animal life throughout its expanse.
The region was once part of Kolenwoud, a vast ancient forest that covered and shaped the landscape. The woodlands today retain much of that original character and represent a continuation of forest cover that has existed here for centuries.
The park serves as a gathering place where local communities connect with the forest through walks and outdoor activities. People come here to experience and appreciate the woodland landscape that has shaped life in this region for generations.
The park provides designated parking areas, clearly marked trails, and information points at various access points throughout the protected area. Wear comfortable walking shoes and be prepared for changing ground conditions depending on the season and which forest section you explore.
The park contains thousands of ancient trees that stand out for their impressive girth and size, bearing witness to centuries of forest continuity. Some of these old trees are among the largest and oldest found anywhere in the region.
