Palacio de los Condes de la Vega del Sella

The Palacio de los Condes de la Vega del Sella is a noble residence in Llanes with a rectangular layout, two floors, and a central courtyard. The complex is anchored by the historic Tower of San Jorge from the 11th century, which forms the oldest part of the structure.

The Estrada family managed Llanes Castle and received the title of Counts of Vega del Sella in 1647. Over successive generations, they reshaped this residence and added new elements to its medieval foundations.

The main facade displays two noble coats of arms, and Baroque details appear throughout from the 17th century renovation. These architectural choices show how the family adapted the residence to match the styles and tastes of their time.

The building now houses a private museum displaying Asturian diplomatic history and archaeological finds from regional prehistoric sites. Visitors should expect limited opening hours and plan ahead due to the private nature of the institution.

Ricardo Duque de Estrada, the eighth Count and longtime resident, conducted extensive archaeological research throughout the surrounding region. His passion for uncovering the local past made him a key figure in understanding Asturian prehistory.
