Gloriette of Cervantes

The Gloriette of Cervantes is an octagonal monument with four benches decorated with ceramic tiles in Parque de María Luisa beside Plaza de América. The structure features ornamental elements throughout and offers visitors a place to sit while observing the decorated surfaces and architectural details.

The monument was designed in 1913 by architect Aníbal González Álvarez-Ossorio as part of the park development surrounding Plaza de América. A restoration in recent years renewed damaged elements and restored the original appearance of the structure.

The ceramic panels around this monument display scenes from the novel of Miguel de Cervantes, telling stories that visitors discover while walking through the space. The location serves as a meeting point where literature and local craftsmanship become visible to anyone passing through.

The monument is located in Parque de María Luisa, which is easy to reach and offers plenty of space to explore the surrounding area. The benches are inviting for a rest, and morning or late afternoon visits tend to be more comfortable, especially during warmer months.

An Araucaria tree grows in the center of the monument, combining natural elements with the ceramic structure in an unexpected way. This unusual contrast between the living plant and the decorated tiles creates a distinctive character at this location.
