Praia Canido, Urban beach in Oia, Spain

Praia Canido, also called O Canto da Area, is a 270-metre urban beach about 40 metres wide in San Miguel de Oia, Vigo. Its white sand and calm water face a promenade built in the mid-20th century, whose stone ramps at each end and central stairs lead onto the sand. The eastern stretch is the better spot for swimming.

The beach took its current form in the mid-20th century, when the seafront promenade was built and narrowed the sand into a series of crescent-shaped inlets. The promenade added stone ramps at both ends, central stairs, benches and plane trees for shade. The fishing port at the western end and the Roman villa site at Mirambell frame the beach.

The beach serves as a shared space where local fishermen work on boats and nets while visitors swim and relax nearby. This everyday mix of working life and leisure defines the coastal community here.

The beach has showers, toilets, and trash bins for visitors, along with a few restaurants nearby and parking at the entrance. Arriving early in the morning or outside peak season helps avoid crowds.

The beach brings together two contrasting worlds: on one side, fishermen work with their nets and boats while on the other, tourists relax in the sun. This unusual coexistence of working waterfront and holiday beach is what makes the place stand out.
