Medininagar is an administrative city in Palamu district situated along the North Koel River. The landscape is shaped by coal deposits and limestone formations that define the natural environment of the region.
The city was established in 1880 by Edward Tuite Dalton under the name Daltonganj. In 2004, it was renamed to honor Raja Medini Ray of the Chero dynasty.
