Savandurga, Monolithic hill in Bengaluru Rural district, India
Savandurga is a monolithic hill in Bengaluru Rural district that rises 1,226 meters (4,019 feet) above sea level. The mountain has two distinct peaks called Karigudda and Biligudda, forming part of the Deccan plateau.
The hill served as a fortress that changed hands multiple times, first under Hoysala ruler Samanta Raya around 1543. It later came under the control of Kempe Gowda and eventually fell under Mysore rule.
Two temples at the base honor Sri Savandi Veerabhadraswamy and draw visitors throughout the year from surrounding areas. These sacred spaces shape how locals and pilgrims experience the hill and its spiritual importance to the community.
The climbing routes on the south side take six to eight hours and an early morning start is recommended. The best time to climb is early in the day when it remains cool and visibility stays clear.
The surrounding forests contain more than 50 tree species and provide habitat for rare birds and leopards. This natural diversity makes the site remarkable for those interested in wildlife beyond the climbing experience.
