The Shree Betal temple in Amona is a stone structure with a standing idol of Betal, a warrior manifestation of Shiva, positioned in the central sanctum of the religious complex. A large water well located about 50 meters away provided resources to visitors and residents throughout the year.
The temple originates from the Kadamba Dynasty period, but underwent major reconstruction in 1905 when Vithal Jagannath Telang funded its renewal. The rebuilding preserved the original architectural characteristics from its ancient foundation.
The temple brings together several Hindu communities, including Marathas, Kalavants, Gaud Saraswat Brahmins, and Rajapur Saraswat Brahmins, who gather here for shared religious celebrations. Their presence reflects how this site serves as a meeting place that strengthens local spiritual bonds.
The temple is easily accessible on foot and offers straightforward entry for those wishing to visit the sanctuary. The surrounding area is typical village setting, so visitors should allow time for a leisurely visit.
During festivals, priests mount the deity statue on horseback and parade it through village streets, symbolizing its protective role over the community. This procession is a rare spectacle deeply rooted in local tradition.
