Symbiosis International University is a higher education institution in Pune district with several campuses and faculties covering management, technology, design, and communication. The institution offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees for students from India and abroad.
The institution gained university status in 2002 through Shantaram Balwant Mujumdar, who previously taught at Fergusson College. The founder developed the institution from earlier education projects in the Pune region.
The university adopts the Sanskrit principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, integrating global perspectives through educational exchanges and international faculty collaborations.
The different campuses are spread across Pune and connected by local transport. Each site has its own libraries and research centers for the respective disciplines.
A bronze sculpture over 2 meters (8 feet) tall of the Common Man by R. K. Laxman stands at the entrance of Symbiosis Viswabhavan. The figure became known through decades of cartoons in the Times of India.
