Swami Vivekananda Planetarium, Science museum and planetarium in Pilikula, Mangaluru, India.
Swami Vivekananda Planetarium is a facility with an 18-meter dome and 170 seats, equipped with modern projection technology that combines digital and mechanical systems to display celestial objects. The shows present stars, planets, and cosmic events across the curved screen above.
The facility opened in March 2018 following five years of planning and construction. It was created to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of an influential Indian philosopher and educator.
The venue honors a respected Indian philosopher whose ideas stressed education and inquiry, drawing school groups and curious visitors to explore astronomy together. People gather here to watch the sky stories projected overhead.
The venue runs several shows daily, each lasting around 25 minutes, allowing visitors to plan their visit flexibly. It is located within the Pilikula Nisargadhama complex, a larger leisure area with other attractions nearby.
The dome features a tilted design with virtually seamless joints, enhancing the sense of viewing a continuous sky. This construction allows the projected stars and cosmic images to fill the entire visual field smoothly.
