Netravati Bridge, Road bridge in Mangaluru, India.
Netravati Bridge is a road bridge in Mangaluru that crosses the Netravati River to connect the city with its southern suburbs of Thokottu, Ullal, and Deralakatte. The structure supports a four-lane roadway with dedicated pedestrian paths on both sides.
The original bridge was designed as a two-lane roadway but was expanded to handle growing traffic volumes. A parallel structure opened to traffic on March 20, 2014, effectively doubling its capacity.
The structure connects Mangaluru to religious sites and communities along the Netravati River that locals visit regularly. People use it daily to access temples and sacred places on the southern side.
The bridge experiences heavy traffic during rush hours, so crossing is easier in early morning or late afternoon. Pedestrians should use the marked paths and stay alert as vehicles move quickly across the structure.
The bridge has an unusual support system with 18 pillars standing in the river itself and 6 additional supports positioned along the riverbanks. This arrangement allowed engineers to preserve the river flow while creating a stable crossing.
