On 14 September 2008, around 10:15 AM, about 15 youths on motorbikes, suspected members of the Bajrang Dal, entered the monastery shouting slogans and attacked it with lathis. They desecrated the tabernacle, the Eucharist, the monstrance, a crucifix, oil lamps, altar vases and statues of saints; a praying couple and two nuns were reportedly injured. Police later baton-charged and tear-gassed protesters outside, and over 25 Christians and five Bajrang Dal members were arrested.

The monastery belongs to the Sisters of St-Clare, a Franciscan order of contemplative nuns, and its chapel is dedicated to perpetual adoration of the Eucharist. On 14 September 2008 the attack here began around 10:15 AM when some 15 youths arrived on motorbikes; the local congregation first gathered as peaceful protesters before police used baton charges and teargas.
