Hospet Church, Colonial church in Hosabettu, India
Holy Cross Church stands with Gothic architectural features and includes detailed stonework across its exterior walls and bell tower in Dakshina Kannada district.
Established in 1761, the church survived demolition attempts in the 1790s through protection from the Chauta Raja of Moodbidri during Tippu Sultan's reign.
The church functions as a central religious site for 285 Catholic families, maintaining regular services and hosting community gatherings throughout the year.
Visitors can reach the church via local transport from Mangalore, with services conducted in multiple languages to accommodate different congregations.
The church holds the distinction of being the first religious structure in South Canara dedicated to the Holy Cross, with architectural designs by Rev. Fr. A. Diamanti.
