Nehru Maidan

Nehru Maidan is a sports ground in central Mangaluru where football, cricket, and athletic competitions take place throughout the year. The open spaces accommodate various sporting activities and host tournaments organized by local sports associations.

The grounds were named after India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and have hosted Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations for the region since their establishment. These occasions have made it an important site for national commemorations.

During Ganesh Utsav, the grounds serve as a departure point for processions heading to immerse Ganesha idols in the traditional way. This religious celebration brings the community together at the field for a shared observance.

The grounds are easily accessible and feature open areas where visitors can comfortably watch sporting events. It is best to visit on days when tournaments or events are scheduled to see the venue in full operation.

The venue occasionally hosts special exhibitions displaying Mangaluru's first automobile from 1906, a De Dion Bouton, organized by the Mangalore Motorsport Association. This early vehicle reveals the region's connection to automotive history.
