Rudolf-Brun-Brücke, Public transportation bridge in central Zürich, Switzerland
The Rudolf-Brun-Brücke, also called the Uraniabrücke, crosses the Limmat River with three vehicle lanes that connect major streets on either side. The concrete structure is supported by stone parapets and serves as a key link across the river.
A bridge called the Upper Mill Bridge existed at this site as far back as 1394, making this crossing one of the oldest in Zurich. The current structure replaced this earlier bridge at a later time.
The name honors an early Zurich mayor and connects the bridge to the city's civic history. Stone parapets decorated with rosettes echo the architectural style of nearby buildings along the riverbank.
The bridge is easily accessible on foot as part of the main street network and offers good views of the Limmat River. Visitors should be aware of active traffic, especially during peak times.
From 1914 to 1989, trams rolled across this bridge and provided an alternative route around the often busy Bahnhofbrücke area. This tram service shaped the character of the crossing for decades.
