Shek Mun station, MTR metro station
Shek Mun is an elevated metro station in Sha Tin District with two platforms connected by a central island. The station links several neighborhoods including City One and the Hong Kong Baptist University area, with clear exits leading to shopping centers, residential areas, and technology parks.
The station opened on December 21, 2004 as part of the Ma On Shan Rail and was later integrated into the Tuen Ma Line. An expansion in 2020 extending to Kai Tak made it a hub on one of Hong Kong's longest rail routes.
The name Shek Mun comes from Cantonese meaning "stone gate". The station is woven into local daily life, where residents gather to buy snacks and chat with neighbors before catching their trains.
The station is easily accessible with four different exits serving various neighborhoods and ramps for people with mobility needs. During morning and evening rush hours it can get crowded, but clear signage in Chinese and English helps with navigation.
Near the station is a popular snack vendor offering crispy taro cakes shaped like black swans, along with vegetarian dumplings and soups made with pork tripe and preserved vegetables. These local specialties are beloved by commuters and visitors alike, offering authentic local flavor.
