Sultan-Vais-Khan-Mausoleum

The Sultan-Vais-Khan-Mausoleum is a historical burial structure located in Yining County, Xinjiang, China. The building consists of four distinct levels with a cubic base that transitions from a square footprint to a hexagonal shape as it rises.

The structure was built as a memorial to Vais Khan, who ruled the Eastern Chagatai Khanate until his death in 1428. This monumental building stands as evidence of this regional leader's importance during the Moghulistan period.

The mausoleum blends Chinese architectural traditions with local forms from the Xinjiang region. The geometric proportions and pavilion-style construction show how different cultural influences came together in this structure.

The monument sits on the northern slope of the Awulale Mountains and requires visitors to walk mountain paths to reach the site. Being located at this elevation means visitors should be prepared for uneven terrain and rough pathways.

The mausoleum was originally surrounded by forest until portions were cleared for better accessibility. Visitors can still see traces of these clearings in the surrounding landscape today.
