Apsarasas Kangri, Mountain peak in Kargilik County, China
Apsarasas Kangri is a peak in the Karakoram range standing at approximately 7,245 meters (23,770 feet) and features three separate summits. The mountain has steep faces and crevassed terrain that makes it technically demanding for climbers.
The first ascent of the main summit was achieved in 1976 by climbers from Osaka University's Mountaineering Club. This early success marked an important chapter in the exploration history of this Karakoram massif.
The name comes from Hindu mythology, where 'apsara' refers to heavenly beings and 'sas' means place. Local mountaineering communities in the Karakoram recognize this name as part of the region's layered cultural history.
Reaching this mountain requires mountaineering permits and significant high-altitude climbing experience, as conditions remain extreme year-round. Visitors should expect lengthy acclimatization periods and be prepared for sudden weather changes.
While the main summit has been climbed several times, the other two peaks of the massif remain unclimbed. These unclaimed summits continue to attract climbers seeking fresh challenges in this remote area.
