Shan King Estate, Public housing estate in Tuen Mun, Hong Kong.
Shan King Estate comprises nine residential blocks ranging from 18 to 34 stories high, housing over 8,600 units across the property. The buildings are spaced to create walkways and green areas throughout the development, with ground-level shops and community facilities nestled between them.
The estate was the eighth public housing development in Tuen Mun, completed in phases between 1983 and 1986. It was built as part of Hong Kong's broader effort to address housing shortages in the New Territories during the 1980s.
This residential complex reflects Hong Kong's approach to communal living and provides affordable housing for many families in the region. Residents regularly use the shared spaces and local markets that serve the community's daily needs.
The estate sits on Ming Kum Road, about 13 minutes on foot from the nearest MTR station. Wide pedestrian paths connect the blocks, and bus stops are conveniently located near the main entrances.
A portion of the units underwent a privatization program that allowed tenants to purchase their homes. This conversion created a mixed community of both rental and owner-occupied apartments.
