Shengjin Pagoda, Tang Dynasty pagoda in Nanchang, China
Shengjin Pagoda is an eight-sided brick structure with seven stories that rises in Nanchang. The building features red railings and grey roof tiles throughout, with a spiral staircase connecting the different levels.
The structure was built in the early 900s during the Tang Dynasty as a religious building. Over the centuries it underwent several reconstructions, with the most recent major renovation taking place in 1985.
The name refers to sacred items discovered in a metal container during excavations at the site. These findings show how the structure served as a repository for objects of spiritual importance.
You can reach the pagoda by bus from several directions and explore the site throughout the day. Wear comfortable shoes since the spiral staircase involves climbing through multiple stories.
Each floor contains four real gates and four decorative doors arranged in a symmetrical pattern. At the top sits a three-meter ornament carved from camphor wood that was crafted with careful attention.
