Wangshan Tuku

Wangshan Tuku is a mansion compound in Nanchang composed of multiple connected buildings arranged around courtyards and passageways. The structures follow a deliberate layout pattern that creates a network of interconnected spaces.

The compound was built in 1821 during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty as a residence for the prominent Cheng family. It reflects the wealth and status this family held during that era.

The ancestral hall at the center brings together garden design from the Jiangnan region, architectural elements from Hui traditions, and influences from Qing imperial design. Visitors can observe how these different styles blend together in the rooms and courtyards.

The site is located outside central Nanchang and requires planning to visit. It is helpful to allow time to explore the various connected areas within the compound.

The compound gained official recognition as a provincial protection site following extensive restoration work that started in 2003. This designation in 2006 marked an important moment in preserving the estate for future generations.
