Sendeanlage Siegen-Giersberg, Radio and television transmitter on Giersberg mountain in Siegen, Germany.
Sendeanlage Siegen-Giersberg is a broadcast transmitter located on the Giersberg hill near Siegen, in western Germany. The steel lattice mast stands 103 meters tall on a hillside at 354 meters above sea level, giving it good line of sight across the surrounding valleys.
The site began transmitting in 1950, originally broadcasting on medium wave at 702 kHz. Over the following decades the equipment was gradually updated, and by the late 2010s the station had switched entirely to digital television and mobile services.
The tower on Giersberg is a recognizable landmark for people living in and around Siegen, visible from many points in the valley below. Local households rely on it to receive public television and radio without a cable or satellite connection.
The facility is not open to the public, but the mast is visible from the walking paths on the Giersberg hill. The surrounding area is easy to reach on foot and offers views over the Siegen valley.
The mast has a square cross-section with sides just 1.4 meters (about 4.6 ft) wide, which is narrow for a steel lattice structure of this height. This compact shape allows it to carry several different broadcast and mobile services at once within a single slim frame.
