Marlygarten, Landscape garden in Park Sanssouci, Germany
The Marlygarten features curved pathways through green spaces with a central Flora statue carved from marble by sculptor Emil Wolff before 1850.
Originally established in 1715 as a kitchen garden for Friedrich Wilhelm I, the space supplied vegetables and fruits to the royal kitchen of Potsdam.
In the 1840s, garden architects Peter Joseph Lenné and Gustav Meyer transformed the formal kitchen garden into an English-style landscape garden.
The garden sits on the eastern side of Sanssouci Park, with the Peace Church forming its eastern boundary and the Green Gate Avenue along its southern wall.
The garden received its name from Friedrich Wilhelm I, who humorously called it 'my Marly' in reference to the French Marly-le-Roi palace gardens.
