Heiligenbergturm, Observation tower in Neuenheim, Germany.
The Heiligenbergturm rises 16.5 meters on Michelsberg hill and features multicolored sandstone blocks with a square base that transitions to a circular form. From its viewing level, you can see across the Neckar Valley and toward Heidelberg Castle in the distance.
Built in 1885, the tower incorporates stones from the former Stephanskloster monastery that once stood on this hill from 1094. The monastery vanished during the 16th century, and its materials later became part of this structure.
The tower serves as a key landmark for hikers exploring the connection between Odenwald forests and the Vosges region. People use it as an orientation point along major walking routes that link these landscapes together.
You can climb an internal spiral staircase to reach the viewing platform about 15 meters high. The path up is straightforward, and the panorama rewards the short climb.
Near the tower lies the Heidenloch, a shaft about 55 meters deep with mysterious origins possibly dating to Roman times as a water cistern. This puzzling feature fascinates visitors who wonder about the hill's ancient past.
