Thingstätte Heidelberg, Outdoor theater on Heiligenberg hill, Heidelberg, Germany

The stone amphitheater features semicircular seating arrangements carved into the hillside, accommodating 8,000 seated and 15,000 standing spectators on the forested slope.

Built in 1934-1935 under architect Hermann Alker's direction, the theater required 600,000 Reichsmarks for construction and opened with a ceremony attended by 20,000 people.

The theater incorporated 17 stage microphones and 7 loudspeakers for performances, making it one of the first outdoor venues with integrated sound amplification systems.

Visitors reach the theater through hiking paths in the forest, where information panels explain the historical context and architectural features of the structure.

The theater transformed from a propaganda venue to a cultural monument, hosting jazz concerts by American forces in 1947 and serving as a gathering space until 2017.
