Abydos King List, Royal inscription in Temple of Seti I, Abydos, Egypt

The Abydos King List contains three horizontal rows of carved cartouches displaying names of 76 ancient Egyptian rulers on a temple wall.

During the reign of Seti I around 1290 BCE, the inscription was created to establish a legitimate succession from the first pharaoh to the current ruler.

The inscription excludes certain rulers such as female pharaohs, Hyksos kings, and those from the Amarna period due to political and social considerations.

The list serves as a reference for researchers studying ancient Egyptian chronology, providing names and sequences of pharaohs from different dynasties.

The kings are depicted in cartouches arranged in three rows, with the bottom row repeating Seti I's throne name and personal name throughout.
