KV1

KV1 is an underground tomb in the Valley of the Kings that extends about 44 meters deep into limestone rock, containing multiple chambers decorated with hieroglyphic inscriptions and religious symbols. The corridors and rooms follow a carefully planned layout that is typical of royal burial sites from this period.

The tomb was built during the New Kingdom period of ancient Egypt and shows the construction methods and burial practices of that era. The structure reveals changes in the planning of royal graves across generations.

Visitors reach this tomb through the main entrance of the Valley of the Kings complex, where audioguides and multilingual information panels are available. Comfortable footwear is important since the underground corridors can be uneven and the temperature in the depths remains cool.

The tomb shows traces of modifications and repairs that archaeologists have made to ensure the structure's durability over the centuries. These interventions document how experts treated past damage and sought to preserve the heritage.
