KV63, Ancient tomb in Valley of the Kings, Egypt
KV63 is an archaeological site in the Valley of the Kings near Luxor, Egypt, consisting of a vertical shaft leading to a chamber with white walls. The room measures roughly four by five meters and features a stone access door.
The University of Memphis research team led by Dr. Otto Schaden discovered the site in 2005. This find marked the first tomb discovery since the resting place of Tutankhamun was found in 1922.
The site held seven wooden coffins with painted faces and twenty-eight large earthenware vessels containing materials for ancient Egyptian burial rituals. This arrangement shows the careful preparation used to store equipment for the journey into the afterlife.
The artifacts were moved to the nearby tomb of Amenmesses for analysis, where Egyptologist Salima Ikram supervised examinations in March 2006. Visitors should note that this workspace was set up for specialists and may not be open to the public.
Unlike royal tombs, this site served as a storage facility for materials similar to those in the embalming chamber of Tutankhamun. The find contained no human remains but only items used to prepare burials.
