KV6, Ancient tomb in Valley of the Kings, Egypt.
KV6 is a rock-cut tomb carved into limestone cliffs in the Valley of the Kings, stretching over 100 meters deep. Inside, sloping passages connect multiple chambers whose walls are covered with hieroglyphic inscriptions and carved relief scenes.
Construction began under Ramesses III and reflects the craftsmanship and artistic standards of that royal period. The tomb showcases how workers executed such monumental tasks within a limestone mountain.
The wall paintings display scenes from sacred texts that guided priests and pharaohs through the afterlife. These images offer visitors insight into how ancient Egyptians understood death and the spiritual journey beyond it.
The entrance sits on the main path through the valley, making it straightforward to find when visiting the archaeological site. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water, as the descent into the mountain is steep and the interior passages are unlit.
The walls contain over 120 ancient builder marks and graffiti left by workers and early explorers spanning different centuries. These scratches accidentally created a record of who passed through the tomb long after it was sealed.
