KV27, Ancient tomb in Valley of the Kings, Egypt.
KV27 is an ancient tomb in the Valley of the Kings consisting of a shaft that connects four undecorated chambers within the rock. The main room opens to three side chambers through a plastered ramp, creating a simple linear layout.
The tomb remained unexplored until 1993, when Donald P. Ryan from Pacific Lutheran University began systematic investigations as part of the Valley of the Kings Project. This marked the start of scientific documentation for the site.
Archaeological fragments uncovered in the tomb include pieces of canopic jars bearing inscriptions related to a person named Userhet.
A steel door installed in 2007 now protects the tomb from water damage through structural improvements. Visitors should prepare for narrow underground passages and bring sturdy footwear for the descent.
Before formal excavations, the entrance provided shelter to local antique sellers and even served as temporary housing for dogs. This everyday use shows how the tomb had integrated into local life long before archaeology arrived.
