KV19, Royal tomb in Valley of the Kings, Egypt
KV19 is a royal tomb in the Valley of the Kings that extends roughly 39 meters into limestone bedrock. The structure consists of several corridors that spiral through five successive chambers leading to the burial area.
The tomb was commissioned during the Twentieth Dynasty and later served as a burial place for a royal prince. Its history shows how these graves were sometimes repurposed for different family members over time.
The painted walls show scenes from the Book of the Dead and depict a prince making offerings to Egyptian gods. These images reveal the religious beliefs of the royal family and their connection to the divine world.
Access requires an authorized guide and navigation through steep stairs and tight passages. Visitors should prepare for limited movement and wear comfortable footwear.
The entrance jambs are decorated with black hieroglyphs and protective cobra symbols marking the passage between the living world and the afterlife. This decoration was an important part of the protective system for eternity.
