Sidi Bishr Mosque

Sidi Bishr Mosque is a place of worship in Alexandria featuring a rectangular courtyard surrounded by covered walkways with octagonal columns and pointed arches throughout. The building's layout is organized by parallel corridors that guide worshippers through its interior spaces.

The building began in the late 1800s as a shrine and was expanded to four times its original size during a major renovation in 1945. This transformation made it a much larger place for the community to gather and pray.

The mosque is named after Sheikh Bishr Ibn Al-Hussein, a mystical teacher whose life was deeply connected to this place by the Alexandria waterfront. You can sense the reverence for this spiritual figure as the community continues to gather here and maintain their religious bonds.

The mosque is located on Khaled Ibn Al-Waleed Street along the seafront road and is easy to access. Visitors should wear respectful clothing and be aware that prayer times may affect entry to certain areas.

The western section contains a square-shaped shrine room topped with a dome from the 1800s, representing the oldest part of the entire complex. This historical element gives visitors a direct connection to the place's earliest beginnings.
