Giza Plateau, Archaeological site in Giza, Egypt
The limestone plateau extends over 3 square kilometers and contains three main pyramids, multiple smaller pyramids, tombs, and the Great Sphinx.
The construction of monuments on the plateau began during the Fourth Dynasty of Ancient Egypt, with the first major structure dating to 2686 BCE.
The necropolis served as a mortuary complex where priests performed rituals and presented offerings to maintain the divine aspects of deceased pharaohs.
The plateau has two primary access roads, with the northern route leading to the Pyramid of Khufu and the eastern path near the Sphinx.
The geological formation contains numerous natural caves formed by wind erosion, and the surface slopes northwest at a five-degree angle.
