TT34, Ancient Egyptian tomb in El-Assasif, Egypt
TT34 is a rock-cut tomb complex in El-Assasif featuring an underground layout spread across multiple levels. The burial chamber and surrounding rooms connect through a series of passages designed to protect the grave.
This burial site dates to the late period of ancient Egypt and was built for a high-ranking official of Thebes. Its construction took place during an era of significant transformation in Egyptian governance and power.
The walls display funeral inscriptions and religious texts important to ancient Egyptian burial practices. You can see how skilled craftspeople carved these writings into stone, reflecting what people believed about life after death.
Access to the site involves descending into narrow underground passages that can be dark and tight in places. Wear comfortable clothing and allow yourself time to move slowly through the interconnected rooms at your own pace.
The complex originally belonged to a prominent family member whose name and titles remain carved into the walls. These carvings are still partly readable and reveal details about who was buried here and their role in society.
