El-Assasif, Ancient necropolis in Luxor Governorate, Egypt.
The El-Assasif archaeological site contains multiple burial chambers located in a dry bay leading to Deir el-Bahari on Luxor's West Bank.
Excavations revealed tombs from four ancient Egyptian dynasties, spanning from 1550 to 525 BC, including burials of nobles and middle-class families.
The discovered sarcophagi display detailed paintings, hieroglyphs, and references to the Book of the Dead, illustrating Egyptian beliefs about afterlife.
Recent excavations in 2019 uncovered thirty sealed wooden coffins containing mummies of twenty-three men, five women, and two children.
The site contains the tomb of Padiamenope, which extends thirty meters underground and features passages copied from sacred ancient Egyptian texts.
