Hermitage of Nuestra Señora de La Anunciada, Urueña

The Hermitage of Nuestra Señora de La Anunciada is a Romanesque church built with three naves separated by cruciform pillars and completed with an octagonal dome at the transept crossing. The design includes semicircular apses that give the interior its distinctive shape.

The church was built in the 12th century under the direction of Infanta Sancha Raimúndez. Its construction incorporated the stone foundations of a Mozarabic monastery that had stood on the site since the 10th century.

The main altar holds a Baroque retablo from the 17th century that houses a Gothic statue of the Virgin from the 13th century. Locals and pilgrims regard this figure as spiritually important to the community.

The church sits roughly 2 kilometers from Urueña's town center and is accessible by a quiet country road. Visitors should plan to arrive during opening hours and respect that this remains an active place of worship.

This hermitage stands as the only complete example of Lombard Romanesque architecture with Catalan influences in all of Castilla-León. This rare combination of regional styles makes it an unusual building worth observing closely.
