Agew Awi Zone, Administrative zone in Amhara Region, Ethiopia
Agew Awi Zone is an administrative area in Amhara Region that covers fertile land with elevations ranging from 1,800 to 3,100 meters. The main center Injibara serves as the hub connecting to towns such as Chagni, Tilili, and Dangila through regional roads.
The area takes its name from the Awi people, a subgroup of the Agaw who settled here centuries ago. Their traditional land management practices continue to influence how the region is organized.
People here speak Amharic and Awngi, languages that reflect the area's mixed communities and their daily interactions. These languages shape how locals connect with one another and with the land around them.
The area is accessible through roads connecting Injibara with neighboring towns, making travel between settlements straightforward. Road conditions can vary by season, so planning flexibility helps when visiting.
The zone contains nine permanent rivers flowing toward the Blue Nile, along with two crater lakes called Zengena and Tirba. These water features shape the landscape and serve as important resources for people living here.
