Grand Massif, Ski area in Haute-Savoie, France.
Grand Massif connects five distinct resorts—Flaine, Les Carroz, Morillon, Samoëns, and Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval—with more than 140 slopes spread across elevations up to 2500 meters. Over 60 lifts access these runs, offering trails suited to every skill level from beginner to expert.
Flaine, the highest point in the area, grew from a snowshoe expedition by René Martens and Gérard Chervas in the 1950s. This discovery led to the development of a modern resort that was later connected to the older neighboring villages.
Each of the five resorts maintains its own character, from the car-free village of Flaine to the traditional alpine architecture found in Morillon and Samoëns. Walking between these places, you notice how each community shapes its surroundings differently.
Access spreads across multiple entry points in the different villages, so crowds are not concentrated in one location. Most visitors can find a convenient starting point near their accommodation that suits their ability.
The Cascades run stretches 14 kilometers through a nature reserve with Mont Blanc visible throughout the descent. This long continuous run stands out as one of the most memorable experiences in the area.
