Parc naturel régional des Caps et Marais d'Opale, Regional natural park in Pas-de-Calais, France.
Parc naturel régional des Caps et Marais d'Opale is a protected natural area in northwestern France, combining coastal cliffs, marshes, and inland landscapes. The territory spans 132,507 hectares and provides diverse habitats for wildlife and plants between the English Channel and North Sea.
The protected area was created in 2000 by merging two earlier parks that had built upon conservation efforts from 1986. This merger allowed for more comprehensive protection across the region's diverse ecosystems.
Small village cafes scattered along walking routes preserve local traditions and offer visitors authentic places to stop and rest. These establishments, supported by the 'estaminet randonnée' initiative, keep regional customs alive in the communities.
The area features a dense network of walking trails and information points to help visitors explore the various habitats. The main visitor center in Le Wast provides a good starting point for planning your route through the territory.
The area contains roughly 80 percent of the region's total species diversity. Part of it, the Audomarois marshes, is recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
