Aiguille Large de Marinet, Mountain summit in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France.
Aiguille Large de Marinet is a mountain summit in the French Alps that reaches approximately 2,640 meters in height. Rocky paths lead upward to a high mountain plateau where the terrain opens to views across surrounding peaks and valleys.
The peak was shaped by tectonic forces millions of years ago during the formation of the Alpine mountain range. These same geological processes carved out the rocky ridges and steep slopes that define the summit today.
Shepherds use the alpine meadows around this area to graze their flocks during the warmer months. The animals shape the look of the landscape and continue a way of life passed down through families.
The hike from Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye takes roughly seven hours round trip along marked mountain trails. Weather conditions change rapidly at this altitude, so hikers should carry appropriate gear and start early in the day.
From the summit, you can see three mountain ranges spread across the horizon: the Ubaye, Queyras, and Mercantour. Alpine lakes below act like mirrors, reflecting the surrounding ridges and sky.
