Old poscards of Carrières de Maurin

The green marble quarry extends over 200 meters in length and 50 meters in width, situated between 2000 and 2200 meters altitude in the French Alps.

From 1840 until 1950, the Dervillé company operated the quarry with hundred workers, extracting precious green marble blocks for prestigious French monuments.

The extracted marble adorns the Napoleon tomb at Les Invalides and decorates the steps of Opera Garnier in Paris, marking its influence on French architecture.

Eight different extraction sites spread across the area, including Les Blavettes quarry, with specific locations north and east of Maurin hamlet.

The marble contains distinctive black and light green fragments surrounded by white calcite veins, with colors ranging from ivory to emerald tones.
