Pic de Panestrel rises to 3254 meters between the Guil and Ubaye valleys, providing views across the surrounding mountain ranges.

The geological formation of Pic de Panestrel dates back to Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, featuring red marble layers from Guillestre dating to Malm period.

Mountain climbers and hikers regularly ascend this peak, which forms a natural boundary between two major valleys of the French Alps.

The ascent requires approximately 8 hours with an elevation gain of 1530 meters, starting from the parking area after two bridges on Route de Maljasset.

The Panestrel ridge exhibits a distinct geological structure with a fault and the Aspaturas syncline that shape its current relief.
