Zone de protection paysagère de Pusztaszer

The Pusztaszer protected area is a large landscape with river floodplains, grasslands, and wetlands in southern Hungary offering diverse habitats. The mix of open water, reed beds, and meadows creates a patchwork of natural variety throughout.

The area gained protected status in 1976 after researchers recognized the ecological importance of the Lower Tisza region. This decision came from understanding how crucial this landscape is for wildlife populations.

The area has long been shaped by fishing and herding practices that continue to influence the landscape today. The way people have worked here for generations has helped keep the natural rhythms of water and seasons alive.

The area can be visited throughout the year with observation points located at various spots to watch birds and wildlife. Photography platforms positioned at key locations provide good viewing angles of animal populations.

Lake Fehér is a large fishpond system within the protected zone that hosts around 180 bird species. You can watch cranes, geese, and Mediterranean gulls in significant numbers, especially during migration periods.
