Tanda, human settlement in India
Tanda is a town in Ambedkar Nagar district, in the state of Uttar Pradesh in northern India. It has a central market and commercial area surrounded by residential neighborhoods, with a street layout typical of mid-sized towns in this part of the country.
Tanda grew as a trading settlement along routes that connected agricultural areas of eastern Uttar Pradesh. As the region developed, the town became a local hub for trade in farm produce and woven goods.
Tanda is known for its weaving tradition, and handwoven fabrics are produced on small looms in workshops scattered across the town. Walking through the lanes, visitors can hear the rhythmic sound of looms and see traders selling cloth in the local market.
The central market area is easy to navigate on foot, and most shops and services are grouped close together. Local transport is available for longer distances, and the cooler months make moving around the town more comfortable.
Tanda is one of the recognized centers of handloom weaving in Uttar Pradesh, with some workshops still using traditional looms passed down through families for generations. This craft tradition sets the town apart from other similarly sized places in the region.
