Gulab Bari, Historical tomb in Faizabad, India.

Gulab Bari is a mausoleum in Faizabad featuring a square structure with arched passages and a large dome, set within gardens of roses and water channels. The complex includes a mosque and an Imambara positioned around the central tomb building.

Built between 1753 and 1775, this mausoleum contains the remains of Nawab Shuja-ud-Daula, the third Nawab of Awadh, and his mother. The construction reflects the power and architectural preferences of the Nawab rulers of that era.

The complex serves as an important gathering place for religious ceremonies and community meetings, housing a mosque and an Imambara within its walls. These spaces shape how people use the site today for worship and social occasions.

The site is most easily reached by train through Faizabad railway station or by bus from nearby Lucknow. Wear comfortable walking shoes as the complex requires walking through both shaded and open areas to see all its parts.

The walls were built with Lakhauri bricks, a durable material typical of the region that has helped the structure endure. An underground channel beneath the complex connects to a water reservoir in Lucknow, revealing the clever water management of its designers.
