Imola is a town in the Metropolitan City of Bologna, Emilia-Romagna, stretching along the Santerno River and surrounded by farmland. The Via Emilia crosses the town, linking it with neighboring communities across the region.
The Romans founded Forum Cornelii here around 82 BC under Lucius Cornelius Sulla, establishing an important trade hub. During the medieval period, the settlement became a free commune and adopted the name Imola.
The name Imola comes from the Roman Forum Cornelii, a reminder of the town's ancient foundation. Today, visitors walk through the cobbled streets of the old center, where ceramic workshops continue their traditional craft.
