Province of Crotone

The province was separated from Catanzaro Province in 1992 as an independent territory, preserving the heritage of the ancient Greek settlement of Kroton founded around 710 BCE. This long history shapes how the region is understood today.

The museums here display archaeological finds from ancient Kroton and commemorate Pythagoras, who founded his influential philosophical school in this area. This connection to the ancient world still shapes how locals understand their region's identity today.

At Cape Colonna stand the remains of the Temple of Hera Lacinia, a solitary stone of great archaeological importance rising at the easternmost point of the province. This location offers rare direct contact with a physical link to the Greek past.
